About us
We are two textile engineers. We met at college, spent more than twenty years in corporate jobs, and talked about starting something of our own for most of them. Talking, it turns out, is the easy part.
When we finally sat down to do it, we listed every idea we had, then every strength we had. The second list was shorter. What survived both was the one thing we’d always agreed on: a well-made white shirt is among the best things a person can own, and hardly anyone makes one properly anymore. So we started there.
The name came from a domain search, not a loom. We wanted a word from cloth that sounded right and was still available. The meaning came later. Ends run the length of a fabric, picks cross them, and neither makes cloth alone. There are two of us. We took it as a sign.
We make one shirt, from the best fibre we could find, and keep making it better. That fibre happens to grow in Tamil Nadu. We’re quietly proud of that, but we’d have chosen it wherever it grew. Almost every decision since has had an easier option: a common cloth, a standard size, a factory that turns out thousands. Each time we’ve taken the harder one, because it made a better shirt. It makes us slower. We’re fine with that.
You won’t see much of us in your feed, and you won’t see our faces. Partly because we’re camera-shy, partly because we think a good enough shirt shouldn’t need one. If you’re curious, write to us. We’re much better over coffee than in photographs.
We’ll get some things wrong. When we do, we’ll say so.
One shirt at a time.
